Roots and Shoots open day

Hamelin Trust is holding an open day at our Roots & Shoots horticultural project in Rochford.

Members of the public will be able to visit our Sutton Road site, which supports young people and adults with learning disabilities and autism (LD&A), between 11am and 3pm on Wednesday 28th June.

On the day there will be the opportunity to purchase fresh produce grown on site by our gardeners including fruit, vegetables and herbs. Visitors will also be able to participate in fun outdoor games.

The event is open to the community as a whole, but visitors will also be able to find out more about the support available for young people and adults with LD&A.

Pippa Martin, Roots & Shoots Specialist Manager said the site was the perfect environment for people to learn new skills and improve their physical and mental health.

She said: “Our gardeners gain practical experience to develop confidence, creativity and life skills. They learn where food comes from, how to grow different crops, and understand the wildlife around us. There is also the opportunity to work towards nationally recognised qualifications and support to explore employment.

“It’s a really exciting time for our project and we’re delighted to be showcasing what we have to offer to our local community.”

Roots & Shoots can be found on Sutton Road, Rochford, SS4 1XS, close to Purdeys Industrial Estate.
