Reuse & Recycling Projects

Hamelin Trust’s Reuse and Recycling Projects aim to:

  • Have a positive impact on reducing the hundreds of tonnes of reusable/recyclable waste being tipped into landfill, including furniture, bric-a-brac, Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) and much more…
  • Provide accreddited training for people with disabilities and others disadvantaged in the workplace
  • Give adults with learning disabilities the opportunity to learn transferable work related skills, including health and safety, customer care, retail, computer skills, etc

Within the Reuse and Recycling Projects we have a number of training areas where new skills can be learnt, including:

  • Recycling and reuse of unwanted computers – individuals learn how to wipe the hard drives, refurbish and re-sale through our charity shops.
  • Furniture Restoration – old furniture is given a new lease of life by reapplying varnish/paint. Individuals learn skills such as french polishing, fine art works and also manufacture new furniture learning techniques such as sawing, measuring and constructing.
  • Sew much fun – Our textile project, teaching skills in dress making, alterations and creating items such as hair bands, bags and aprons from re-cycled fabric which has been donated through our charity shops.

Nationally recognised accredited training will be available to the project attendees through the NPTC (Natoinal Proficiency Test Council) Entry Level Certificate in Skills for Working Life and other City and Guilds courses.
